Dear Exxon
After posting a quarterly profit of over 8 billion dollars, why don’t you spend some of that no-so-hard-earned money, wisely? Instead of sending off outgoing chairman Lee Raymond with a $400 million dollar bonus (seriously, does he need that much? Wouldn’t 50 million be enough for anyone?), why don’t you spend a good chuck of that change in research towards more economical fuel types? Look into the growing trend of biodiesels and use your might and resources to make biodiesel a feasible alternative.
While our senators are saying “Give everyone 100 bucks for gas“, I’m thinking that’ll be good for two fill ups. TWO. So if this does come to pass, I think I’ll take that 100 bucks and buy a bicycle instead, and start pedaling to work. What a wonderful thought that is; people everywhere start biking where they need to go. The air would be cleaner, people would be healthier and Exxon Mobile wouldn’t have any sort of stupid insane 8+ billion dollar profit.
Rant over. I’m gonna go hug a tree now.

I meant to post sooner about this past weekend, but the server my site is hosted on was having issues, and this week at work has been rather busy. But now, Wednesday night, I finally have a bit of time to go over some hightlights.
My brother and his fianceé came to visit, and it was the first time we have met her. She’s from Slovokia, and has a wonderfully beautiful accent to go along with her quiet and shy demeanor. She seems like a wonderful lady, and I’m excited my brother found someone to share his life with. I’m hope they’re both very happy (they certainly are cute together).
The other big even this weekend was my MDA Texas Hold ‘Em tournament. Every year I raise money for MDA, and have a poker game to help raise funds. I had prizes for the top finishers, and there was a ton of food. We had enough people this year that I had to have the game at a friends house, as they have a bigger home. I placed third, but I was happy with that. Even the wife played and tied for fourth! I was proud of her!
My daughter and I are getting ready for our yearly campout with the Indian Guides next week. And after that, it’ll be time to start getting ready for Ride of the Patriots. So, full schedule ahead!

Ok, I think we’re back to normal. I have ZenPhoto installed, the ZenShow wordpress plugin in place and apparently working. Now I just need to get some more photos added, and then get to work making the gallery fit in with the rest of the site look and feel.
And I consider this a hobby…*sheesh*
-edit-
And now comments work again. Thanks Doug for pointing that out!
Frackin’ it up
No, it’s not another Naked CSS day…I was playing with ZenPhoto and trying to integrate it into WordPress when I fracked something up (I’ve been watching back-to-back discs of Battlestar Galactica. Frack is my new word)
Now it’s Friday, 5 o’clock, and time to go home. Karma for working on my personal site at work I guess.
Frack.
No commentsPorn
I think the definition of porn should be changed. Right now, the definition pertains to erotic behavior that causes sexual excitement. Some ten years or so ago, I read Pat Cadigan’s Synners for the first time (What I wouldn’t give to have the original UK copy in hardback…cheap!), where she uses the term in conjunction with medical shows, cop/chase shows, disaster shows, etc. Medporn, Disasterporn, and yes, even sexporn. In the way she used it, it worked well to describe a fascination (almost morbid in some sense) of the way people are attracted to bloody surgeries, deadly chases, shoot outs, etc.
I bring this up because in the last week, I’ve gotten two catalogs in the mail, both which just make me go “woohoo!” with glee. Yes, I actually say “woohoo!”. The first, which should come as no surprise is a Harley parts catalog. All that chrome. All the “Make Go Faster” accessories. All the eye-catching beautifully detailed paint-schemes. I can sit and fantasize about what my bike would look like had I the cash to drop on frivolous items such as these.
The second was a catalog from Sweetwater. While you might know of the Harley fixation, you probably don’t know that I also like to play and compose music. I have an M-Audio Oxygen8 keyboard hooked up to my G4 which I use to compose music in Propellerhead’s Reason software. It’s been a long process, both in learning how to use Reason, and finding time to sit down and work with it. But I’m digressing again…when that catalog shows up, it definitely gets leafed through quite a bit. Starts on the dining room table and ends up on the back of the toilet.
Seriously…if I got a Playboy and Harley or Sweetwater catalog in the mail at the same time, the Playboy would be looked through last…and only once.
I must be getting old or something.

The local classic rock radio station has been giving away tickets to the upcoming Def Leppard/Journey show. I’m home this morning as I’m playing chaperon to my son’s 7th grade class. We’re going on a field trip to the Air and Space Museum today…but I digress. Anyhow, they were giving away third row tickets this morning and on a whim, I grabbed the phone and dialed. The first try was just dead air (damn VoIP phones). The second try just rang and rang, and I was that close to hanging up when there was an answer. They actually answered! I was the proper caller (I don’t even know which caller I was supposed to be), and I won third row tickets, along with the radio station sponsered “6-hour happy hour”….sweet.
Oh, and no, the page isn’t broken…it’s CSS Naked Day! Time to strip off!
