Here we are again! I gave myself a Christmas present and moved off my brother’s server and onto a Dreamhost account. So far so good! I’ll give a decent post probably later this weekend. Updates on Christmas and whatnot. Probably redo the theme again as well. And we all know what kind of trouble I can cause when THAT happens…
So…did you all miss me? :)

Nice timing.

So…it happened.

After nearly 12 years with AOL, I find myself without a job, having been laid off yesterday. I’ve dodged plenty of layoffs before, but this one found me. I’ve had a suspicion since August or so that it would.

So today I blew the dust off my resume, and started submitting it to friends who’d heard I’d been laid off and requested that I send it. Hopefully I’ll be able to find something quickly, though I doubt it, what with the holidays and all.

Merry freakin’ Christmas….

Hammer-time

The hammer drops tomorrow.

Already today I’ve received two ‘good-bye, it’s been nice working with you’ emails. One I know was told two months ago that this week would be his last. The other I’m not sure if he is in the same situation or just has a premonition about tomorrow.

Everyone around here seems to be holding their breath. Walking on tiptoes and talking in whispers. It’s when I walk by people having those whispered conversations that I know they’re talking about what jobs they’ve applied for, who might be hiring, who’s left, who’s leaving, who might be gone. It’s all quite sad, really.

I’ll be glad when the holidays are over. I’m ready for a new year to begin. I want new goals, new challenges. The beginning of the year is always a good, albeit cliché place to start.

Here’s to hoping I have a job when it comes around.

Can’t get no…

Would you believe I’m already not happy with this layout?

I’m never happy it seems. In this case, I’ve discovered I’m not very keen on the width given for the journal posting. I came to this conclusion yesterday as I was taking a screen shot of my current desktop, which I’ll post here:

small winter desktop

So anyhow, I think I don’t like the size constraints. I haven’t decided whether to continue working on tweaking this layout (perhaps if I remove the big cactus picture I’ll be happier) or go with the layout I’ve been working on for the past few weeks (something new and original…well, at least new and original for me).

I’m just never satisfied I guess. I can never seem to settle on one thing. Ah well, watcha gonna do.

In other site-related news, the Quick Bits are back (down in the lower left). These are usually just links to various sites I’ve found in my travels that have piqued my interest in one way or another. I always have these sites I want to share with people, and this seems like a good way to go about doing it.

Oh, and in non-site-related news, someone left a condom on my desk. I found it this morning. At least it’s still in its wrapper.
